Baseline CT Screening Helps Detect Early Stage lung Cancer

Hi everyone,

This is the newest issue that appears in Mesothelioma situation. Regarding to the , the issue -”New research shows baseline helps detect early stage lung cancer in people at high risk because of asbestos exposure” were reported at 28th November 2007. I’m continuing my reading to the main source of this issue at The Oncologist. It was told that Italian researches have found a new method to prevent lung cancer especially in mesothelioma. It’s also reported CT ( computed tomography ) screening of persons exposed to asbestos is useful for the detection of early .CT Screening,lung cancer

As we known, this issue certainly will be good news for or people with a history of . People who are consequently at high risk for developing mesothelioma or lung cancer will get a change to be healthy and prevent themselves from these diseases early. At the end of the day, it should increase the action of and improving the quality of life.
It’s too difficult for me to give more elaboration about this issue because I’m not a doctor or specialist into that way. But, I’m really happy to share and spread it in this blog and hoping that people who are suffering of mesothelioma will get a better life.

Taken from the oncologist, it said:

“Over 1,000 persons enrolled in a surveillance program for asbestos-exposed workers participated in this program. The median duration of exposure to asbestos was 30 years, and the median age was 58 years. Sixty-six percent of participants were smokers with a median of 18.5 pack years. Results of CT were compared to routine chest X-rays. Eight-hundred thirty-four non-calcified nodules were detected in 44% of participants on initial CT compared to 43 nodules in 4% of participants by chest X-ray. There were nine cases of lung cancer detected by CT and none by chest X-ray. Eight lung cancers were Stage I and one was Stage IIA and all were treated with potentially curative surgery. In addition, one person had a thymic carcinoid detected by CT. There were 11 false positive results. No cases of mesothelioma were detected in this study.”
